Replacing transmission pan gasket?

I have a 1990 Buick Regal Gran Sport with a Transmission Pan Gasket Leak. I've had this car for 3 years now and when I brought it, I had it inspected. That did come up on the inspection but it wasn't necessary to change at the time. Now it is leaking worse and ive had to add transmission fluid from time to time but not often. I check my fluids regularly. Well I had 3 opinions by ASE certified techs on it and 2 out of 3 said that by changing it, it won't hurt the transmission. But that one person said that its a big risk. Im kinda scared to change it because I don't want to have to buy another transmission. The car shifts just fine so that's why I haven't touched it yet. Just want opinions by Techs only please or someone who had a similar problem.
